Believe

For so many years I didn’t do things because I knew people that were better at whatever than I. Take art, for example. I grew up with an incredibly talented and artistic mother whose talent I will never equal let alone surpass.

And so, drawing, painting and doodling were simply something I did because I enjoyed it not because I was any good at it.

After all, there were lots of people, my mother especially, that were so much better artists than myself. I hid my talent under a bushel.

Then truthfully, I’m not sure when it happened.

I don’t know if it was a moment or a series of people or events but I came to realize that not only was it OK for my art to be just for mi but some people actually liked it and paid their hard-earned money to have things I created in their possession.

And I remembered that out of 500 applicants from across the globe only 50 were accepted to one of the most prestigious art schools in the country and the portfolio that I threw together in a week was one of those accepted.

Maybe I do have a glimmer of talent.

Maybe someone saw something I didn’t.

Had i believed in myself years ago who knows where I might be today, in my art career or otherwise. But I’m not looking back.

I have no regrets. I’ve accomplished more these past 15 years than all the years prior combined.

So, please, do NOT do something because you think you’re not good enough, ready enough, talented enough, smart enough or educated enough. I didn’t have resources like You tube and Google to teach and answer questions. If you don’t know, or understand learn, figure it out.

Someone out there needs what you have.

You truly can do anything, if you believe in yourself because there are people out there right now who are less qualified than you,

showing up,

believing in themselves and making it happen.

 Trust mi, you can too.
