Create something that lives on

“Our goal is not to live forever, but to create something that will.”

~ Chuck Palahniuk

This is proof of such a story:

A friend of mine recently visited a doctor’s office, and when she arrived at the checkout cubicle, she noticed a framed sign on the wall.

The sign was a design her late father had created many years ago. He had them printed, placed them in dollar-store frames, and gave them to friends, family, and anyone he met who needed encouragement.

She was taken aback and asked the woman helping her if the sign belonged to her. The woman replied that one of the nurses had two of them and had given her that one. My friend then shared where the sign originated. The nurse mentioned that it seems to help many people who are feeling anxious.

It melted my friend’s heart to realize how a small gesture from her father is still impacting not only the people he personally gifted the signs to, but also total strangers, even though he is no longer alive.

It reminded her that we don’t have to do big things to make a difference; small acts of kindness can make an impact beyond what we ever imagine.
