women need other women

Can I be real for a second?

I’ve never been in a more “clicky”, “good-ol’ boy”, “I don’t share that information with my competitors,” community until I moved to the Charleston area.

Why is that?

When I first moved here, I was looking for sunflowers to shoot for a cover for my magazine. I noticed a fellow photographer posted some lovely pictures he took. As a new person to the area, I inquired the location, only to get “I don’t share my locations.” I’m sorry. I thought it was God’s location. I mean, if it was someone’s private property he could have said that, but he didn’t.

I’ve been denied membership to groups because I wasn’t a million dollar company…(yet).

So? What?

That means I have nothing to bring to the table?

Or..

You have no desire to help mi get there? Geez.

Am I naive to believe in collaboration over competition?

To think that simply because we both do the same thing or are in the same industry that we can’t help each other?

Why can’t we simply help each other, build relationships and connections?

Because truth be told, I’m pretty gifted.

And even I if I can’t help you or don’t need what you offer, I probably know someone who does.

But, if I am in your corner

I toot your horn,

I root for you,

No jealousy, no hate,

No competition.

I want to see you grow and succeed.

It truly brings mi joy.

Is it possible to change our mindset about how we do business with each other?

Does anyone else feel like I do? I’d love to connect if you do.
